Major ICT service provider in Asia Pacific Diyixian.com Ltd announced today that the Chinese government has granted a national wide value-added telecom license to Diyixian to provide IPVPN service. This makes Diyixian the first joint venture company to be granted official approval to provide IPVPN service, call centre service and Internet data services in all regions in China .

Remote Disaster Recovery for Critical Email

In 2009 Q2, one of Diyixian’s business partners – Comprehensive Systems Limited (http://www.hktoo.com/) engaged with Diyixian to provide a total Remote DR solution to one of its customers, aiming to increase their existing email service’s availability dramatically.

Comprehensive Systems Limited (CSL) is a Hong Kong-based IT solution provider founded in 1986 and mainly provide sales, maintenance and technical support in various IT services.

Customer Background

The end user is a Hong Kong-based law firm serving clients locally and throughout the Asia region. Established in 1975, they have an extensive collective knowledge of legal practice in the region. The firm has a strong reputation across all of its practice areas. From the year of 2000 to now, the firm excellence has been acknowledged by various awards bodies, e.g. The Asian Legal Business Awards.

Situation

The end user’s email server was developed in the year of 2002, which has been using Windows 2000 Server as the operation system and Microsoft Exchange 2000 as the email server application. As the company growth, number of email with bulk attachments gradually increased. In last 6 months, the server has failed 2 times due to overloading, which leaded to the email services outage for more than half day each time. All incoming emails were lost and users cannot send critical email to their important customers.

Furthermore, customer found that existing Exchange 2000’s features cannot fulfill users’ needs, and therefore upgrading the email software and its related infrastructure (network and hardware) has become a priority.

The Solution

System-wise:

CSL worked as the IT consultant for the customer. After discussing with customer’s management team about their concerns, a new server hardware platform, Windows 2003 Server (64bit) OS and Microsoft Exchange 2007 were proposed and accepted. As one of their major concerns was the availability of the email services, Diyixian’s Remote Disaster Recovery Solution – BizCONLINE dedicated solution was included to ensure the business continuity of the email services. Moreover, as the BizCONLINE dedicated solution can serve for multiple servers, their account system server and file server were protected too.

Network-wise:

Diyixian provided a dedicated server rack in DYX IDC with dedicated network connections to their main site for data replication. After this deployment, all the data are replicated to an advanced hardware appliance colocated in Diyixian’s IDC with high standard of facility management and environmental control. In incidence of failure of the email, accounting system or file servers, corresponding service will be resumed in half an hour with BizCONLINE solution and their users’ productivity are resumed. The actual server hardware and software can be repaired or restored by IT staff in a schedule not affecting users. Customer’s management requirements are thus fulfilled in a very cost effective way.

Overall, customer was satisfied with the solution and the actualized benefits.
